Presentation Day Details
Every 4-H member is encouraged to give a presentation each year.
4-H members practice by giving talks to project groups and at community club meetings, sharing information about the skills they learned in a project, and observing other people giving presentations.
Each county holds a Presentation Day, where winners advance to the Area competition. Winners from the Area competitions compete at the State Presentation Day, (June 2, 2018) which is held at U.C. Davis (West Quad) State Field Day. Youth compete by age group: junior, intermediate, and senior.
All presentations are done in the format outlined in the 4-H Presentation Manual. Contra Costa County uses the presentation format the manual along with the evaluation rubrics and scoring key.
Audio/Video Reminder: Presenters are responsible for bringing their own laptop computers or other digital device, cassette/CD players and radios. Rooms do not come equipped with a projector converter cable for Macs. If you are using an Apple/Mac product, you must bring your own adapter.
Presentation categories are open to all age groups: primary, junior, intermediate, and senior. Members may choose from a variety of presentation styles including: demonstration, illustrated talk, educational display talk, persuasive prepared speech, informative prepared speech, impromptu speech, interpretive reading, share the fun, cultural arts and science or engineering presentation. Presenters may not also act as evaluators; however, they may be a Room Host in most circumstances.
Volunteer Opportunities include:
- ROOM RUNNER: Members 9 years and older. Duties include collecting Judges scoring rubrics at the conclusion of each presentation and taking them to the Tally Station
- ROOM HOST: Members 12 years and older. Duties include presiding over the area, help presenters set up, introduce the presenter and assist spectators.
